Fractured Atlas Dashboard Redesign

Fractured Atlas is a nonprofit arts organization that helps artists fundraise for their creative projects through its fiscal sponsorship program. This is a redesign concept of Fractured Atlas’s member facing fiscal sponsorship dashboard.

I began working at Fractured Atlas in 2020 and witnessed the massive evolution of their platform. However, the numerous customer interactions I had showed me that their interface needed a little TLC. This was a personal project that I embarked on after the work day.

Problem Statement

Once approved for fiscal sponsorship, new members need assistance getting familiar with the interface of Fractured Atlas. Most of these artists do not identify as “business people” and often feel intimidated by the idea of approaching their artistic finances. The customer support team experiences a high call volume from new members asking for a walk through of the dashboard.

Goal

Update the UI of the fiscal sponsorship dashboard to be in alignment with the Fractured Atlas’s brand which should decrease the number of support calls from new members and increase user independence.

Research

In order to make effective user centric updates, a design audit of the current dashboard design was conducted. Various customer support emails and phone call transcripts were reviewed to better understand the current users needs. This research revealed:

The design audit showed that this information was there, but the lack of UI discouraged members from exploring the dashboard on their own.

Based on the types of members the customer service team reported interacting with, two user personas were created.

Wireframes

Understanding that change for users can be hard, the mid-fidelity wireframes were then updated to mimic some of the same information architecture established in the original design, while highlighting the hidden features.

Resource Module

The resources section of the initial design already contained fundraising tips for artists. This module style of the dashboard now highlights this feature.

Coach Marks

Adding a question mark icon to these modules gives users more information about the important aspects of fiscal sponsorship.

Notification Bar

Users can view important updates in regards to their account, project donations, and announcements made by the Fractured Atlas team.

Next Steps

The success metric for this redesign would be based upon the decrease in the number of support calls from new and existing members regarding the fiscal sponsorship dashboard.

Moving forward, this design needs to be tested by the customer support team of Fractured Atlas to ensure it contains all the relevant information, as well as a select group of members of the fiscal sponsorship program.
